Creative Writing Honours student Emily Larkin will be published in the next issue of Meniscus, a recently formed online open-access journal. Emily's Options tells the story of two teenagers who, in their private spaces, weigh their options - the girl hearing the future's bright call, while the boy is entombed in the past. It is a story about endings, beginnings and hope.
Talking about her excitement at seeing her work published, Emily said: 'I love writing for a young adult audience because they often face a strange blend of childish and adult pressures and problems. Adolescent years are memorable, awkward, and offer a bridge between worlds. Like my characters, real-life teens are confronted with the uncertain future - but might miss opportunities if they don't learn how to dwell in the moment.'
The next issue of Meniscus will be published by mid-year.
